Trauma-Informed Care

Camino Real Community Services is a Trauma-Informed Care organization that realizes the prevalence of trauma, recognizes how trauma affects all individuals involved with programs as well as the workforce, resists re-traumatization and responds to putting this knowledge into practice.

Anyone can have a potentially traumatic experience. Studies suggest that 59% of the general population reports having an adverse childhood experience. 70% of the individuals with IDD experienced abuse; 90% of the people who interact with a public  behavioral health organization report having experienced at least one traumatic event in their lifetime.

Trauma-Informed Care is a strengths-based framework that considers the whole person. Trauma-Informed Care is grounded in an understanding of and responsiveness to the impact of trauma; emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety for both providers and survivors; and creates opportunities for survivors to rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.
